Rickety Kate: A Unique Trick Taking Card Game
Rickety Kate is a free trick-taking card game developed by Geoff Burns for iPhone. In this game, players compete to win tricks by playing cards of the same suit as the first card played. However, the twist is that the player with the lowest running score wins, so winning a trick may not always be beneficial.
The game revolves around the Queen of Spades, also known as Rickety Kate, which is worth 10 points against you, along with the other spades that are worth 1 point each. If you manage to collect all the spades in a hand, you achieve "Shooting the Moon" and your score drops to zero. At the beginning of each hand, players pass their three worst cards to their neighbor, with Aces and Kings considered the worst cards.
Rickety Kate offers a wide range of options and settings to customize your gameplay experience. You can choose the number of suites in the deck, ranging from 3 to 8, and the number of cards in each suite, from 10 to 20. The game supports 3 to 7 players, with empty seats filled by robot players. Additionally, you can play with 1 to 7 human players in pass-the-phone/pad mode.
Other customizable options include the inclusion of Jokers and Tarot Trumps in the deck, the use of the "Pass Three Worst Cards" rule, the game's finishing score, the speed of card animations, the scoring cards (Spades, Hearts, or Jacks), and the inclusion of special cards like the Hooligan and Omnibus. You can also choose to follow the rule of not leading with a scoring card suite until someone plays a scoring card.
With its diverse options and unique gameplay mechanics, Rickety Kate offers a refreshing twist to the traditional trick-taking card game genre. Whether you're a seasoned card player or new to the genre, this game is sure to provide hours of strategic and entertaining gameplay.
